The Farnese Hercules is one of the most famous sculptures of antiquity. Since its discovery up until today, its fortune was incessant. It has been a source of inspiration and study for artists, art historians, archaeologists, but also an exemplary image of strength and muscle power for the European imaginary. In the course of contemporary age, replicas, copies, reproductions of all kinds have made the Farnese Hercules a “daily meal” able to reflect changes in aesthetic tastes and convey new meanings that the ancient statuary conjures up in the contemporary world. What is the meaning of the Farnese Hercules in the contemporary world? The research starts from this question.
